Downsizing - culling any things I like but don't LOVE as there is no room! Moving to Australia

So much stuff, so little time....

Until very recently (we're talking two years?) I've been a maximalist, buy buy buy, not considering the practicality of said purchases and definitely not thinking about the environment or people making the stuff I was buying. All that's changed now, I've done numerous culls of my things, clothing, shoes (SOO many SHOES) household decor items....

But now we're MOVING TO AUSTRALIA it's getting serious, as in we gotta cull anything we don't absolutely LOVE - there's room to store a small amount with my sister as she lives on a farm and has an attic - but we're talking bare essentials people, like my Granna's tea set I inherited:

These tea cups are TINY - like espresso or nothing.

This was the shoe situation I was working with.

I've kept 4 pairs from this, keep your eyes peeled from my shoe capsule.

All of this is either sold and gone or soon to be.

It's really varied what people are interested to buy and what they're not bothered by.

Are you super jealous of all this stuff I have to sell? It's not that bad really, once we can see the floor we'll know we're almost there!

Have you considered down sizing?

Do you collect things only for them to sit there looking back at you?

Shoesday Tuesday - Shoedrobe, where I store my shoes. Painted antique cabinet with hand painted wallpaper lining

Hello shoe fiends!

I thought it was about time to introduce you to where I keep the family jewels, aka: my SHOES

*Winter edition - summer sandals are on the top shelf of my closet.

Bottom shelf - Left to right: beanies, purses, scarves.

This was an old walnut antique China cabinet that I painted white, added a green trim around the outside of the doors and made my own hand-painted inserts to go in behind. Still have to buy handles!

Spray painted this candelabra - it was nice, now its NICER.

I used to own A LOT more shoes, the cabinet was messy and I just didn't wear HALF of them.

Now all of these I wear regularly, they're all reasonably comfortable and they FIT. Less is more on this journey we call fashion.

Shoesday Tuesday - some things I've learned through my shoe fiendery - quality vs quantity/comfort vs pain.

♥If they're not right - send them right back.
I purchased 2 pairs of platform heels online and they were WAAAY too high!

These red beaded heels were beyond lovely - but once again the platform made me a giant

and the under sole was so slippery you WOULD fall over - even on carpet!

These wedges however, from Roc boots Australia were an online purchase I really agonized over that really paid off. They have the platform for comfort but they're not ridiculously high.

These Kathryn Wilson's - I purchased in store. I'm a total sucker for zebra!

They're SUPER comfortable and I get so many compliments on them.

We even spotted them in the Auckland Museum (right pic)

♥ I like wedges with a bit of a platform - They're comfortable and the arch isnt too high, so you can wear them all day without getting sore balls... of your feet that is.

I saw them in the shop and walked away, only to return later that day to snap them up!
I walked around Melbourne all day and not even one issue - super comfortable - and rose gold 😊

♥Cheap ballet flats will hurt you and fall apart - Very quickly! They may look cute - but the more you can invest in higher quality the more you feet will thank you.
My pop-art ballet flats in the first image don't carry any branding - I bought them from an online sale store, but they're amazingly comfy, I've had to glue them back together!

♥ I'm not a stiletto person, I just don't feel stable in them. I probably have 3 pairs now. Stilettos are super sexy and so nice on some, but they're just not me.

♥ But the ultimate thing I've learned as a seasoned shoe fiend...  your most 'boring' shoes will most likely end up your most worn. Fun shoes are all good... but you still need the comfy basics.

NOTD - My version of Cupcake Nails, a super fun nail art tutorial

So, these were mildly successful, so I'll show you how I got here

Remember: Patience.

Step 1: Paint yo nails...

Step 2: With a white striper (or white gel pen) 

draw your icing top and vertical lines down to your cuticles...

Step 3: Fill the icing top in with white.

Add some glitter nail polish for sprinkles!

Do a dot for the cherry on top.

Et Voila!!!
I've put glitter nailpolish over the top to look like sprinkles. 

Not as pretty (or as edible) as these cupcakes I made for 
SPCA (Society for the protection of Animals) Cupcake day!

*cough* If your don't look like this, soz dunno why!?

OOH! Always add a top coat to seal it all up!

Closet/Wardrobe Organizing - Part 5: Bedroom, Pinterest Inspired Organization

Left: Bedside Table - I painted it myself, was just plain pine. I like to keep the bedroom as clutter-free as possible, but being an avid acquirer of new shiny things I tend to get messy.

As long as everything has a home though, I can keep it tidy

(as long as I don't buy NEW STUFF!)

Right: This shelving sits next to my closet/Wardrobe under my Necklace Cork-board.

It holds my Nailpolish (in the Green Box)

and two pairs of impractical shoes I bought online... Online shopping aye, it'll get ya.

And this is how I organize my HATS! I made up this organizer all by myself, thought I was ever so clever, until I saw Geneva from "a Pair and a Spare" and her hat storage solution...
SO MUCH BETTER than mine... but I can always borrow her idea at a later date.

 Green, pink and purple are my favorite colors for interiors.

 Shoe cabinet, full length mirror and Hats

I'm pretty happy with the bedroom now.

Feels Less cluttered and a much nicer place to chill and play dress-up.

Closet/Wardrobe Organizing Part 4 - Shoedrobe, Pinterest inspired organization

 I call this "The Gallery"

It holds my favourite shoes (right) and Original Shoe-fiend Heels (Left)

With a Bed Tray full of some pretty things. How cool is that star clutch?

My phone's too big to fit in it! #Sob

Once upon a time all my shoes fitted in here nicely with other items like frames and jewelry... now it's just shoes.

Closet/Wardorbe Organizing Part 3 - Non-clothing items in any good closet. Pinterest Inspired Organization

After much scrolling through my "Dream Closet" Board on Pinterest

I decided it was time to tackle the travesty that was my closet:

Top-o-the-closet: Spare shoes I don't wear that much...

Right: Small Purses. Left: Delicate Tops and Swimwear.

 Right: Wooly Hats/Beanies. Right: Clutches/Evening Purses.

to the far left of My wardrobe,

I hide all my Forgotten Shoes I never wear and plan to sell/offload

Then Hidden in the clothing I have a Hanging Belt Organizer - left

And on the Right: Scarves all knotted over a Wooden hanger

I find it easier to hang up rather than

fold/roll in a draw 

Down the bottom I hide my sneakers, flip-flops and my "Flat-shoe-overflow"

Re-organizing your closet/wardrobe is a great opportunity to sort out what you never wear, I discovered about 25 purses I never use and no longer want!

Quality, not quantity peeps.
