Scotland - the Food

So Scotland has a somewhat dubious - and totally undeserved - reputation when it comes to cuisine.  To give credit where it's due Edinburgh has the highest concentration of Michellen starred restaurants!  Angela and I did indeed have an INSANELY GOOD curry - down Cockburn street "Gurka Cafe" - but that's not the purpose of today's post... oh no, not at all.

Feast your eyes upon:

DEEP FRIED PIZZA!!!                                                 And DEEP FRIED MARS BAR!!!

Treat No.01: That's right - what's better than a plain ol' piece of pizza you ask:  Chuck it in the DEEP FRYER!  To be honest this was actually really good - but LOOK AT THE GREASE!
Treat no.02: And again you ask - how could one make a Mars bar even MORE calorie ridden and heart attack provoking? (No offense Mars bar - but you know you're a devilish treat) Let's DIP IT IN A BATTER AND DROP IT INTO YE OL' FRYER!  Mmm feeling hungry?
We shared these treats between 4 #lightweights
                                          P.s. what a deal > > >
Treat No.03: HAGGIS!
This is the "Full Scottish breakfast" (like a full English but with ADDED HAGGIS)
I could explain the whole idea of haggis - but I'm gonna leave this one to wikipedia

"Haggis is a savoury pudding containing sheep's pluck (heart, liver and lungs); minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally encased in the animal's stomach and simmered for approximately three hours. Most modern commercial haggis is prepared
in a sausage casing rather than an actual stomach."  Aka: actually quite YUM! It reminded me of felafel!

I had the vegetarian Breakfast (right)
The "Haggis" was mushed up Red kidney beans with haggis spices - was really YUM.
We were mega super hung over so this meal was a definite cure - the guy across from us ordered a giant glass of orange juice and once we saw that we all ordered one too!!
#relief.

And to stay with our Haggis theme:
The Vegetarian haggis burger (right)
Pretty much just felafel type pattie with "Haggis Spices" @The Stand Comedy Club Edinburgh.
Was really nice - but I preferred the minted lamb burger - only because that was SUPER DELICIOUS!
The relish came in that super cute jar in the top of the picture - such nice presentation!

Below: the most DELICIOUS treat you could imagine - a GIANT Coffee Profiterole.
Choux pastry filled with coffee flavoured cream and iced with Coffee flavoured fondant.

Look at all the treats!  @Fisher & Donaldson's in St. Andrews (the home of GOLF)

Yes that's a cream filled MACAROON!

Okay - I've tortured you guys with enough foodgasmic pictures now, I'm off down the bakery :-P
